1-Week Countdown to Hughenden Flood Recovery Project
The countdown has begun!
In just one week, our Land Rehabilitation Team will be on the ground in Hughenden, ready to kick off the delivery phase of the Hughenden Flood Recovery Project.
Administered by Southern Gulf NRM, this initiative forms part of the $32.75 million Riverine Recovery Program, provided by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the jointly funded Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Over five weeks, the project will focus on improving soil health along the Flinders River and restoring vital riparian vegetation across the riverbanks and surrounding floodplain.
Planning began in mid-2024, marking nearly 12 months of preparation and commitment.
Significant rainfall and moderate river flow events in February and March 2025 tested our adaptability, but the team remains focused and ready to meet the challenge.
We’re excited to begin this crucial work—reinstating key vegetation zones along the Flinders River to deliver lasting benefits for landholders, the local community, and this essential natural landscape.
Various banks along the Flinders River have extreme erosion- washing away precious topsoil and land from agricultural properties, while lowering the quality of the waterways.
The project is has the full support of the local landholders, the Flinders Shire Council, and the traditional owners of the land.
Momentum is building… it’s time to get started!
