Numinbah Offset Site Management Plan

Numinbah Offset Site Management Plan

Specifications

  • Client: Seqwater
  • Scope:

    In 2016 and 2017 Verterra undertook a Health Check of the Numinbah Offset and provided reporting with recommendations for the continued maintenance of the Offset towards remnant status. To meet the Vegetation Management Act conditions for the Hinze Dam Stage 3 VMA Offset, Seqwater subsequently engaged Verterra to provide a three (3) year Site Management Plan (SMP).

    Performance information presented in both the 2011 Management Plan and the 2016-2017 Health Check report were considered to ensure the original VMA Offset objective and performance criteria were reflected in the SMP. The three-year Site Management Plan comprised:

    A land managment plan;
    Fire management considerations;
    A Pest Animal control strategy;
    A Land Access Protocol; and
    Monitoring, Evaluations and Reporting Plan.

  • Challenge:

    Seqwater engaged a Numinbah valley landowner to provide 13.09ha of land under a statutory covenant for regenerated and revegetated koala habitat offsets in compliance with the Vegetation Management Act 1999. Following preparation of a site Vegetation Management Plan (Ecofund 2011), the offset was established in 2013 at 2201 Nerang-Murwillumbah Road, Numinbah Valley. The Offset was established in response to raising of the Hinze Dam that resulted in inundation of vegetation communities. The objective of this Offset it to achieve non-juvenile status and progress to remnant status over time.

  • Solution:

    Verterra brought its knowledge of the site, understanding of the legislative and policy settings for Vegetation offsets and its depth of experience in establishment of vegetation offsets and vegetation bio-condition monitoring to this project.

  • Benefit to Client:

    A comprehensive Site Management Plan that meets requirements of the Vegetation Management Act and provides the client with a clear way forward to manage the offset successfully.
