Paddock to Podium: Nature-Positive Beef for the 2032 Olympics
Verterra founder Glenn Dale recently presented at a meeting of the Lucinda Alliance, a collective of Queensland businesses and organisations working towards a carbon neutral and eco-positive Brisbane Olympics in 2032.
Glenn’s contribution focused on the potential for nature-positive food sources to feed the Olympic and Paralympic crowds which, collectively, approached 11 million people at the Paris games.
Beef consumption over the four-weeks games period is estimated to top of 8 million kg representing production from around 100,000ha.
Implementation of grazing practices that include measures such as resting pastures, forage budgeting, distributed watering point and rotational grazing can improve grazing productivity, retain higher levels of vegetation cover, reduce sediment export, sequester soil carbo and regenerate land health.
Not only can these measures reduce impacts from beef production, they can contribute to offsetting carbon emission from been production by around 40% and contribute toward Barrier Reef sediment reduction targets.
Verterra’s work with combined eco-markets and regenerative agricultural practices and our newly launched DROVER tool for graziers make us uniquely experienced to drive this initiative.
