Review of drought effects on E. globulus plantation yields and review of CABALA in Greenfield plantation yield modelling

Specifications

  • Client: Timbercorp
  • Scope:

Review of drought effects on Blue gum plantation yields and modelling predictions of yield including:

    • quantification of drought impacts
    • basis of drought impacts
    • identification of sources of bias in the model CABALA, used to estimate growth productivity

(Under sub-contract to MBAC Consulting Group)

  • Benefit to Client:

This detailed analysis provided the client with an understanding of the principal factors explaining drought impacts, the complex nature of these impacts. The project was able to quantify the loss in productivity for falls in cumulative rainfall. Importantly, the analysis also identified serious shortcomings in the principal approach to yield modelling supporting plantation investment, and recommended a more robust approach to support realistic investment decisions and investor confidence.
