    In collaboration with Tumba Pine and Timber Training Creswick, sawmilling and kiln drying study of small diameter, young age eucalypt thinnings including:

    • sawmill processing of five year old thinnings using a micromill
    • kiln drying trials
    • influence of timber defects on grade recovery
    • characterisation of shrinkage parameters
    • characterisation of machining and appearance characteristics
  • Benefit to Client:

    The project provided quantitative data to demonstrate favourable timber processing characteristics of wood from genetically improved clones, and the capacity for processing of young-age material into high value products. This in turn supported commercialisation of genetically improved planting stock.
