  • Scope:

    In association with the client, preparation of a Beneficial Use Plan (BUP) for regulatory approval of a coal seam gas water irrigation development comprising up to 2,000 ha of amended water, drip irrigated forest plantations and 300 ha of desalinated water, pivot irrigated fodder crops. The Beneficial Use Plan included:

    • Design of a whole-of-water balance monitoring system including real time monitoring of climate, soil moisture, surface water and groundwater
    • Crop establishment and management plan
    • Irrigation system design
    • Community engagement plan
    • Monitoring and reporting plan
    • Operational and environmental risk management
  • Benefit to Client:

    The project resulted in approval of the first, large scale beneficial use approval for irrigation of coal seam as water in Australia, and established a standard for Coal Seam Gas beneficial use projects.  Beneficial use approval allowed the client to develop the project to efficiently manage associated water from Coal Seam Gas operations, allowing gas production and associated revenues from gas sales.
